Not to Worry Your Brother is Here!

Hanging on the Porch

I have been known to use the term “bro” for any new friend I meet, these past 2 weeks however, have taught me what it means for someone to be a brother.

I found a brother in a twenty year old, energetic, joyful Nepali named Sujan who has been my adventure companion since the day we met. He always calls me “Casey sister” and has shown me the meaning of what healthy brother/sister love between two believers should look like.
I was surprised to find out that he’s an orphan and grew up in a children’s home in Kathmandu. I was blown away by his story and how he had come to Christ through the orphanage. I learned that sometimes you don’t realize that Jesus is all you need until he’s all you have.

Some nights we’d sit on the porch with all our friends and I’d listen as he’d strum his guitar and get lost in worship songs that he would create. Sometimes to make me laugh, he would make up songs for me and add my nickname “Mohima” into the lyrics (Mohima is the Nepali word for “glory”).
While God used Sujan in many ways in my life, one aspect of our friendship meant more to me than anything else. He truly took on the brother role by taking care of my needs. I can’t tell you how many times I would hear the phrase, “not to worry, your brother is here” or “ You sit here Casey, your brother will take care of everything.”

I’ll never forget this amazing friend and brother of mine and as we said goodbye for the last time I cried realizing that the next time we meet might not be this side of heaven. Weather we meet again in this life or not I know that where ever I go I have a brother in the Himalayas of Nepal who I’ll never forget.
